A surgical bus is being trialled by Hutt Valley Health Board as a way of reducing surgery waiting times.
Board chief executive Chai Chuah said a small number of operations were carried out this week to test the logistics and cost-effectiveness of using the bus for minor operations.
Health Ministry figures to the end of July showed 74 Hutt Hospital patients were waiting longer than the recommended six months for surgery.
