Just weeks after a grieving man's wife died, thieves have stolen precious photographic memories of her.

Canterbury man Trevor White is now pleading with the people who stole his tablet to return the memory card.

On it are pictures of his wife Dianne, who died five weeks ago.

"I visited daily and read to her, played music and told her the story of her life.

"I also took a few photos on a Galaxy Tab Pro RF2F401ET9F. Most of the time her eyes were shut but there was the occasional small smile I was lucky enough to get," Mr White wrote in an emotional Facebook post that has been shared almost 15,000 times

"Don't care about the tablet - insurance will replace that - but memories that are precious only happen once in a life."

Mr White wrote that two weeks after his wife died he visited Tauranga, Hamilton and Auckland and "visited things and places that were meaningful to both of us."

"Anyway my last visit was to Mt Eden. I parked my rental in the top car park, locked it and walked up the mountain. On my return I found that some thief had smashed the 1/4 light window and taken a bag which contained the Galaxy Tab Pro.

"I know he/she had to be a pro cause those windows take a bit of smashing. It also means that they would get rid of the stolen gear pretty fast."

My White asks anyone who has bought a "cheap 8.4" Samsung tablet" to check for an additional storage card that might contain the photos.
