A teenage burglar probably wishes he hadn't targeted Hurricanes rugby player Scott Waldrom's New Plymouth flat, after the fleet footed loose forward chased him down and held him until police arrived.
The speedy rugby player, wearing jeans and socks, found the 17-year-old in his house in the early hours of Sunday morning, the Taranaki Daily News reported.
"As soon as he saw me he ran off."
Waldrom, who can run 100m in about 12 seconds, gave chase.
He caught the 17-year-old trying to get through a neighbour's property and threw him up against the fence.
When police arrived, Waldrom was standing over the youth, who was lying on the front lawn .
"He was pretty quiet and a bit apologetic," the 100kg Waldrom said.
