Martinborough proved that pig hunting is an older pastime than olive oil or wine, as the Pukemanu Tavern hosted Wairarapa Pig Hunting Club's second big hunters' meet of the year.
The MTF Big Four Hunters Challenge was on Saturday.
From 1pm hunters arrived at the carpark with wild pig, deer, goats and an assortment of rabbits, hares and possums, vying for the "Big Four" prize of $1000 cash.
Club president Roger Hale said the prize was won from achieving the highest combined scores in weights of red stag, fallow stag and boar, plus the measurements of a goat's horns from tip to tip.
By the close of the competition, about 30 boar and a smaller number of deer had been weighed in.
