A hunter found floating in a stream in the Urewera National Park died of natural causes, police have said.
Emergency services were alerted to the man's body by a separate hunting party about 1am on Saturday.
A search and rescue mission recovered the body from the Horomanga River yesterday afternoon.
Detective Sergeant John Wilson said the man's family had been contacted and the death was in no way suspicious.
It is understood the unnamed 50-year-old had a medical condition, and fell into the water.
