The country's 12 Fish and Game Councils want hunters and anglers to "step up" as candidates for the upcoming elections for 12 new regional councillors.
Successful candidates will serve a three-year term where they will be tasked with setting regional fishing and hunting regulations and prioritising management direction for staff among other things.
To be eligible, the main requirement is to have a 2014/15 adult whole season fishing or game-bird hunting licence.
Nominations close Thursday, August 27, and voting opens Thursday, September 17.
