A Taupo man who allegedly shot and killed his hunting mate has denied a charge of careless use of a firearm.
In Taupo District Court yesterday, Bernard Lee opted for a trial by jury.
He was released on bail to reappear in the court for a pre-depositions hearing on July 4.
Lee -- who appeared before court registrar Warren Morgan -- was charged after the death of William Gillies, 54, during a hunting trip in the Hauhungaroa Range on April 2.
The pair had been hunting mates for almost 40 years.
