A Christchurch hunter is recovering in hospital after accidentally shooting himself in the foot while hunting in the Mackenzie Basin yesterday.
Senior Constable Brent Swanson of the Twizel police said the 38-year-old man was with a party of 12 members of a Christchurch gun club who were shooting on Haldon Station.
Mr Swanson said it appeared the man slipped, accidentally discharging his 12-gauge shotgun. The Christchurch-based rescue helicopter fled him to Christchurch Hospital.
Mr Swanson said the incident would be investigated and a decision then made whether any charges will be laid.
