A deer hunter has been hospitalised after his quad bike rolled and crushed him in remote forest overnight.
The incident happened at Fordell, east of Wanganui, just before 10pm, police said.
The 60-year-old man suffered chest injuries as a result of the crash.
A police Search and Rescue team, ambulance staff and a number of local farmers helped in the rescue which required a 25 to 30 minute ride on quad bikes to get to the accident scene.
He was flown by the New Plymouth rescue helicopter to Wanganui Hospital in a serious condition.
