A Masterton man was airlifted to Palmerston North Hospital with both legs broken and back injuries after crashing his vehicle on a farm late Thursday.
Masterton fire station officer Garry Nielsen said the man, in his 30s, had been hunting on a farm near Mangapakeha when he lost control of his utility vehicle, which toppled down a bank out the back of the property.
He said the man had been thrown clear of the vehicle and effective co-operation between firefighters and paramedics had overcome challenges posed by the man's remote location and patchy communication.
"There was some good inter-agency work and he was pretty lucky considering where it happened. Things could have been a lot worse."
The man, who was airlifted to hospital by Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter, was yesterday listed in a stable condition in the intensive care unit.
