A man has been charged after he accidentally shot his hunting companion in Taumata Forest, Mamaku, 20km northwest of Rotorua.
Senior Sergeant Mick Lander said the 40-year-old victim was seriously injured after the incident last night. However, his injuries were not life-threatening.
His 51-year-old companion has been charged with carelessly discharging a firearm causing injury and will appear in Rotorua District Court later this month.
