Where in the world is Tiger Woods? Not Great Barrier Island, but the local pub is cashing in on rumours the shamed golfer may be hiding out in their isolated community.
The Currach Irish Pub last night held a "Tiger Woods and friends" theme night, encouraging patrons to dress like the golfer and his many female conquests.
Barmaid Louise Ward said the idea came after the local gossip mill went into overdrive: "We got the idea after journalists came to the island asking about Tiger, and then the rumours started flying."
Ward said the plan for the night's festivities included mini-golf. and a "find the Tiger" competition.
A spokesman for Claris airport said he doubted Woods was on the island.
"There's been no Lear jets, and no chartered helicopters. If he arrived here, I would know about it," he said.
Latest reports from the United States said Woods was being treated at a sex addiction clinic in Mississippi.
He had checked into the Pine Grove Behavioral Health and Addiction Services clinic in the town of Hattiesburg, according to one website.
