Police in Tokoroa were last night hunting for two men who, armed with an axe, stole money and cigarettes from a local dairy.
Northern police communications inspector Lou Alofa said the pair had their faces covered. No one was hurt in the robbery.
Mr Alofa said a police dog followed the pair's scent to a nearby house, where a party was going on. They were not found.
