KEY POINTS:
Auckland police are hunting for a serial sex offender with a history that includes an indecent act with a child.
Officers yesterday issued a warning about Richard James Popata, 35, who is considered a "high risk" offender.
Police spokeswoman Noreen Hegarty said Popata was released from prison on August 27, a few days short of serving a full prison term.
In October 2003 Popata was convicted on several charges, including assault on a child, injuring with intent, burglary and possession of an offensive weapon.
In April 2000 he was convicted on four counts of indecent assault on a female over the age of 16. A further conviction for indecent assault on a girl aged between 12 and 16 stemmed from the same incident.
In 2005 Popata was convicted of indecent assault on a female older than 16.
Ms Hegarty said a warrant for Popata's arrest was issued by the Auckland District Court on Thursday after he failed to report to his probation officer.
He had also breached his release conditions by not being at the home where he was meant to be staying , she said. Popata's last known address was in Dominion Rd, Mt Eden.
However, he has connections and has also offended in the Manukau, Papakura and Kaikohe areas.
Police are urging any members of the public who see him or know something of his whereabouts to call 111.
Meanwhile, Hamilton police are calling for sightings of Roger Kenneth Baller, 34, who is wanted in relation to two burglaries.
"Baller is also of high interest to police investigating other incidents in the city," said Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Page.
Anyone with information on Baller's whereabouts can contact Mr Page on (07) 858 6200.
