Police have intensified the search for a man which CCTV footage shows climbing into slain taxi driver Hiren Mohini's cab the night he was killed.
A 90-second clip shows a man carrying what appears to be a bag later found with blood on it near the Mt Eden spot he died. The man can be seen walking through the city from Queen St to Federal St, where he gets into Mr Mohini's cab.
Throughout the track he carries a bag similar to the bloodstained, royal blue shoulder bag with a distinctive white logo found on View Rd in Mt Eden, the day after Mr Mohini was killed there.
"Someone out there must know who this man is," said inquiry head Detective Senior Sergeant Hywel Jones.
The footage featured on TV2 show Police 10/7 last night, as did the route Mr Mohini took from Federal St to View Rd and immediate witness reports gathered by police.
Mr Jones said residents reported seeing a man running along View Rd toward Esplanade Rd and a man on a carport roof shortly after Mr Mohini's death.
Anyone with information about Hiren Mohini's death is asked to call 0800 444 014, Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or email edgewater@police.govt.nz
