Hundreds of teenagers wrecked two almost-completed houses before riot police drove them away following a party in Hamilton.
The teenagers flocked to the Friday the 13th "Strobe Party" in a North Hamilton subdivision on Friday night, called to the gathering by text messages.
The first group of four police on the scene were pelted with bottles and forced to retreat until reinforcements arrived, The Waikato Times reported.
More police, equipped with riot gear, arrived on the scene , causing the partygoers to flee. Only person was arrested, and was later charged with theft.
The houses, which were still under construction, where the party had taken place had windows and doors smashed, and were spraypainted with graffiti and urinated in.
Lisa and Daryl Landers were only a month away from moving into their new home in the Flagstaff subdivision.
It was the third time their house had been the target of vandals, they said.
"We're not overly impressed by it at all ... we've had a day to calm down now but I can tell you I felt like doing some not very nice things to them," Mr Landers said.
The house across the road, belonging to Murray Yorston, suffered about $5000 worth of damage.
"We throw our life savings into this stuff and to have kids come in and urinate in your house and spraypaint it is just gut-wrenching," Mr Yorston said.
