Hundreds of Kiwi kids give it a try at the Sanitarium Weet-Bix TRYathlon

Children of all ages swam, cycled and ran their way to the finish line at this year's Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon in Auckland.

Hundreds of youngsters - aged 7 to 15 years old - gave it a go at the event at Pt England Reserve today.

This year's event celebrated the 25th birthday of Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon.

Those participating got some much-needed motivation from some of the country's top athletes, including Olympic pole vaulter and bronze medalist Eliza McCartney, who proved to be a hit with the kids lining up for autographs and photos.

Organisers said today's tryathlon was tipped to be the most successful ever, with entries across the country up 10 per cent on last year.

"The increase in children aged 7-15 enrolling for the iconic sporting event continues the trend for the TRYathlon's growing popularity,'' a statement said.

"The very first event - in 1992 - saw just 8-- entrants, while numbers for the 2015/16 TRYathlon series topped 28,000 [participants].''
