Upwards of 400 athletes could take part in the Wairarapa country marathon, half-marathon and 10km events on Sunday.
Event convener Craig Roberts reported 300 entries had been received by midweek with another 100 expected by race morning. Most of the participants will come from the lower North Island but an international flavour has been created through entries from Russia, Canada, Poland and the United States. The premier awards in the marathon, raced over two laps of the Lees-Pakaraka circuit, will go to the top male and female finishers. The Bev Coley Memorial Trophy will go to the first Wairarapa woman to finish in the half-marathon. The first Wairarapa male finisher receives the Hamlin, Gregory and Turnbull Memorial Trophy. The marathonstarts at 7am, the half-marathon walk at 8am, the half-marathon run at 9am and the 10km run-walk at 9.30am.
