KEY POINTS:
There seems to be a film festival for every occasion these days but one that's more than worthy of your attention is the New Zealand Human Rights Film Festival, screening in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch in May.
The theme of the third annual festival is Identity, and it promises both local and international documentaries and dramatic films showcasing human rights and telling the stories of both activists and survivors.
Organisers say the festival puts a human face on threats to individual freedom and gives a voice to those who might otherwise be silenced.
A speakers' forum will take place after each film, with a panel discussion on its issues and questions from the audience.
This year's festival is at Auckland's Academy Theatre from May 2-9, Wellington's Paramount Theatre from May 9-16, and the Regent Theatre in Christchurch from May 16-20. Keep an eye on humanrightsfilmfest.net.nz for more info.
