The remains of what is believed to be a human body have been found near Raglan.
Waikato district field crime supervisor, Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Whitehead, said an overseas tourist called police after he finding what appeared to be human remains on the coastline about 11.15am.
"Where the remains were found is in a poor area for communications and we're currently working to establish the exact nature of the remains and bring in specialist recovery staff," Mr Whitehead said.
"We will be working with the intent to recover the remains and identifying them and at this stage it would be premature to speculate any further on the matter."
In November, 36-year-old diver John Lindsay went missing off the Raglan coast while catching crayfish. His body has not been found.
