KEY POINTS:
Tauranga Police investigating the murder of Grant Trevor Adams, also known as Granite, have located human remains buried at the Wairakei Geothermal Power Station.
Taupo detectives and general duties staff have been examining an area at the power station since last Thursday.
A scene examination will continue over the coming days and it is expected that a post mortem examination will take place in Auckland later in the week.
Detective senior sergeant Greg Turner said he believed the inquiry team had located Adams' body, but that the formal identification process would take some time to complete.
Earlier this month, police issued a $50,000 reward for information leading to a conviction of anyone involved in the murder.
At the time police said they believed Adams had been murdered after a drug deal went wrong.
Mr Turner said the lead about the steam field was a result of good police work, not information relating to the $50,000 reward.
Last Thursday a 49-year-old Tauranga businessman appeared in the Tauranga District Court accused of Adams' murder and manufacturing methamphetamine.
He was granted interim name suppression and remanded in custody until tomorrow.
Mr Turner said he could not comment further on the investigation because the case is now before the courts.
