Chief High Court Judge Tony Randerson is to get a housing allowance of up to $20,000 on top of his new salary of $323,000.
But requests by colleagues for a similar allowance were denied, the Dominion Post reported.
The decision was revealed by the Remuneration Authority when it announced a new pay scale for judges. Chief Justice Sian Elias will now receive $372,000, Supreme Court judges $348,000, Court of Appeal judges $325,000, and High Court judges $303,000.
The Remuneration Authority said Justice Randerson's job warranted bases in both Auckland and Wellington. It would not be appropriate for him to receive the standard allowance of $5600.
