A house is fully engulfed in flames in Orly Ave, Mangere.
Northern fire communications shift manager Paul Radden said fire crews had just arrived on the scene.
It was not yet clear if anyone had been in the house.
A neighbour, who did not want to be named, said she was returning from Pak'nSave when she saw the fire.
"It's a big fire, the whole house is on fire. I was scared to stop because I came with my children," she said.
