One person has been found dead after a "smouldering" fire was seen coming from a bedroom in Orewa, just north of Auckland, last night.
Fire services were called to the Milton Street property about 8pm after smoke was seen coming from a bedroom, a fire service spokesman said.
One person was found dead at the scene.
"It was only a smouldering fire, it wasn't a big one, I think someone just saw smoke coming out of the window," the spokesman said.
No one else was injured in the fire.
