A house has been destroyed in a scrub fire that is still burning on Waiheke Island this morning.
A Northern Fire Communications spokesman said emergency services were called to the fire on Hunterville Rd about 4.15am.
No one was hurt in the fire and no other houses were in danger, he said.
He did not know the size of the fire, but said a helicopter had been stood down.
About a dozen Waiheke Island Volunteer Firefighters were fighting the fire, and Auckland Council was organising for water tankers to be brought to the scene, as there is no water supply.
