KEY POINTS:
A house in the Auckland suburb of Mt Roskill has extensive damage after a fire caused by fireworks, firefighters say.
Fire service shift manager Jaron Phillips said fire fighters arrived at the house at about 12.40am to find it "well involved".
He said no one was injured in the fire but firefighters had put its cause down to fireworks.
Mr Phillips said firefighters from Northland to National Park dealt with 32 fire works related fires last night, most of which were scrub, tree fires and bonfires.
He said fireworks also set a garage in St Johns alight but the fire was put out with a garden hose.
Mr Phillips said an abandoned house in Tokoroa had also burnt down but fire safety officers had yet to determine the cause of the fire.
He said this year's Guy Fawkes was not as busy as previous years.
In Wellington, fireworks are suspected to have caused a scrub fire that threatened houses in the suburb of Miramar at about 9.30 last night.
The blaze threatened two or three properties but firefighters were able to get it under control before it caused any damage.
Central region shift manager Mike Wanoa said aside from two scrub fires, his area experienced a quiet night.
He said there were 42 calls with the largest fires being the two scrub fires that were put out quickly.
In the South Island, Southern fire communications shift manager Brian Sharpe said last night was also "very, very quiet".
He said the cold weather could have put some people off and firefighters were expecting a busier weekend than normal.
He said extra staff had been rostered on.
