Emergency services are fighting to put out a blaze consuming half a house atop a truck and trailer near Kaiapoi.
Four fire engines, two water tankers and about 23 fire service staff are at the scene of the fire.
Initial reports suggested the fire was caused by the house hitting power lines while travelling along State Highway 1, South of the Canterbury town, a fire communications spokesman said.
The fire service was called to the scene at 10.25pm.
