Christchurch police are investigating two arson attacks early on Sunday morning.
A suspicious fire at an address in Peverel St, Riccarton, was reported to the Fire Service at 12.15am.
It appeared the house was burgled and television sets stolen while the owner was away, said Senior Constable Graeme O'Carroll.
In the other incident three trucks and a bus were set alight at the premises of construction equipment distributor CablePrice in Waterloo Rd, Hornby, just before 4am.
Constable Patti Brown said the offenders appeared to have got into the yard by cutting a chain link fence.
"Once inside the yard the offenders removed a CD player, a handpiece for a CB radio and a stereo face plate, as well as jumper leads and various tools from the vehicles," he said.
"They then set fire to the cabs of three trucks and the driver's seat of a bus, causing extensive damage to all four vehicles."
