Stamford Plaza hotel had a different kind of leaky building problem yesterday, with water streaming from the inside out.
The sprinkler system of the downtown Auckland hotel was activated by a fire in the sixth floor.
While the blaze before it caused extensive damage, much work was needed to pump out and mop up the water.
Senior station officer Sulu Devoe said the entire hotel was evacuated, but he was concerned at the delay in alerting guests, because a fire alarm failed.
Stamford Plaza management could not say yesterday what caused the fire.
