Shot put champ Valerie Adams may be injured, but that didn't stop her from turning out to meet young fans in South Auckland yesterday.
The 30-year-old, who is recovering from shoulder surgery, was the main attraction at the ActivePost Family Fun Day at the Auckland University of Technology's south campus, in Manukau. She was there to kick-start a community tour around various parts of the country encouraging children to get into sports.
"Kids are the future of our country," she said.
"It's really important to connect with our communities and if I can help inspire people through these events, then I've done my job."
Adams met fans of all ages, including 6-year-old Madison Holland, who proudly showed off her muscles to the shot put world champion, who laughed heartily.
