KEY POINTS:
Police have intercepted a man who they say smashed into his estranged partner's Glenfield house on the North Shore and took her hostage.
Inspector Les Patterson says the 31-year-old man allegedly tried to force his ex to accompany him in a vehicle to a religious temple near Huapai, northwest of Auckland.
He says police acted on information they received and intercepted the couple as they arrived at the temple last night, taking the man into custody.
Inspector Patterson says police have recovered a large knife from near the scene, and the man has minor lacerations.
He says the woman is shaken and has some minor grazing, but is otherwise unharmed.
The man has been charged with breaching his bail conditions, and further charges are expected to be laid.
He is being interviewed by police.
