The Lakes District Health Board has been forced to publicly apologise for the state of the toilets at Rotorua Hospital. Surgical patients, disgusted with the hygiene standards, resorted to cleaning the toilets themselves last month.
General Manager of Clinical Services Dale Oliff says the hospital is most concerned to receive feedback about the cleanliness of toilet facilities. She says it is quite unacceptable that a patient felt she had to clean the toilet herself.
Ms Oliff says the level of service provided last month was clearly insufficient, but adds that the weekend in question was especially busy for the hospital.
