Hospice Wairarapa has opened its op shop in the former Mitre 10 building at the corner of Queen St and Cricket St, Masterton.
Chairman Lloyd Wilson, in opening the new facility on Friday night, said the hospice was dealing with a record number of patients with life-threatening illnesses. He hoped the shop would help raise the six-figure sum needed to meet that need. He noted the history of the building - before prohibition in Masterton it was the Occidental Hotel.
Mr Wilson acknowledged the work of the garage sale volunteers who operate out of the Te Kowhai site in Renall St, and said this would continue.
