A float carrying two horses has crashed in the Waitaki District this afternoon.
Emergency crews were called to an area near Hampden-Palmerston Rd just before 3pm, after reports a vehicle towing a horse float had been involved in an accident.
A police spokeswoman said the car had lost control and left the road. As a result, the trailer it was towing rolled.
One of the horses had initially been trapped inside the float, while the other was found on train tracks nearby.
There had been no trains due to go through the area for some time, the spokeswoman said, so there was no immediate danger.
