Emergency crews are working to free a horse trapped in a float that has tipped on its side on State Highway 1 in Auckland.
NZ Fire Service northern communication shift manager Jarron Phillips said the float reportedly jackknifed on the motorway near Beaver Rd, Bombay at 4.20pm.
Fire crews were using the jaws of life to extricate the horse. Its injuries remain unknown at this stage.
A police spokeswoman said the float and vehicle towing it were blocking the southbound lanes this afternoon, causing traffic to build up.
No humans have been injured and a vet is on the scene.
