KEY POINTS:
People in the flood-hit Horowhenua localities of Levin, Shannon, Mangaore and Tokomaru were told today to continue boiling water for drinking and food preparation.
Public water supplies were affected by this week's floods.
The Horowhenua District Council said its precautionary boil-water notice already in effect was being extended until at least next Tuesday.
At the same time the council appealed to people and businesses in Levin living to cut water use.
The flooding meant the use of water reserves and reduced use was needed so the Levin water treatment plant could make up the reserves.
Lower use would also permit the proper treatment of water and restore normal operating levels.
