Australian authorities have called off the search for a 46-year-old New Zealander who fell overboard early yesterday more than 500km northeast of Cairns.
The man was on the seismic survey vessel Geo Sounder. It is believed another crew member broke his ankle trying to help the missing man, and the Geo Sounder is heading for Cairns so he can be treated.
The survey vessel is operated by Fugro Survey Private of Singapore and is used by clients in the oil and gas industry.
