A group demanding equal rights to those of Maori seabed protesters claims to be organising a "honkies' hikoi" across the Auckland Harbour Bridge.
Under the name of KIWI, short for Keepers of the Intervention of Wastrels In flagrante delicto, the group has written to tell police and Transit NZ of a plan to cross the bridge at 8am on Tuesday during morning peak traffic.
It follows the decision by police to close two lanes of the bridge this week to allow more than 2000 protesters to march against the proposed seabed and foreshore legislation, despite an earlier refusal by Transit.
The group's leader, an Auckland finance worker identifying himself only as Adrian, admitted to the Weekend Herald that the group had only four members so far but said he was confident of attracting many more supporters.
Police spokeswoman Noreen Hegarty said her commander would consider the letter if and when it arrived.
