Honda's president Takeo Fukui has announced that hybrid cars will account for 10 per cent of Honda's global car sales by 2010.
The Japanese carmaker launched its first hybrid, the two-seat Insight, nine years ago. To achieve its goal within the next two years, Honda has committed to building two new hybrid models in addition to the existing Civic Hybrid.
They are the Global Hybrid to go on sale in 2009, with a focus on making hybrid technology more affordable and a worldwide sales plan of 200,000 units, and a "sports hybrid" based on the CR-Z concept revealed at Tokyo Motor Show.
