Homicide investigation after baby's death

Police have confirmed they are treating the death of a 3-month-old baby in Tauranga as suspicious.

The death of the boy was now being treated as a homicide.

A forensic post mortem will take place tomorrow.

The baby was reported to have died last night.

Police said the child's mother took her son to Tauranga Hospital for treatment at some point yesterday. The baby later died.

Whether or not he was injured or had been sick has not been made clear by police.

Police said they would reveal more information soon.

"Our thoughts are with the family at this sad time,'' authorities said.
