Homicide inquiry launched after fatal stabbing

A 53-year-old woman was stabbed to death at a house in the upmarket suburb of Remuera last night.

Another woman has been arrested and charged with assault in what was believed to be a domestic related incident.

Ambulance officers and police were called to the address in Remuera Rd about 9.30pm and found the critically injured woman at the house.

"Efforts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful and she died at the address," said Detective Senior Sergeant Kevin Hooper.

Another woman who had links with the deceased has been charged with assault.

He said further details about the deceased and the arrested woman could not be released until next-of-kin had been advised.

Mr Hooper said the two women were known to each other.

He refused to say if police had found a weapon or what was the motive for the stabbing.
