Auckland police began a homicide inquiry today after the body of a woman was found in bush.
The body was found about 8.20am 200m off Waikowhai Rd in Hillsborough by passers-by walking a dog, police spokeswoman Noreen Hegarty said.
Police say they have no idea who the woman is, and cannot yet identify her age or race, or say whether she was fully clothed. The say it is too early to say what injuries she had suffered.
A reporter at the scene says police will use a cherry picker to extract the body.
They are being very careful not to interfere with any evidence that may be in the immediate vicinity of the body.
An appeal is being made to anyone with a friend or relative who is missing to call police.
