Emergency services cordoned off part of Ongaonga Rd after a tipped delivery tanker leaked LPG gas on Friday morning.
A police spokeswoman said police responded to a truck which had tipped on Ongaonga Rd about 8.30am.
The spokeswoman said the driver got out of the vehicle with minor injuries.
She said police and Fire and Emergency NZ arrived on the scene about 8.50am and set up a cordon from Swamp to Lindsay Rds due to a potential leak.
The officer in charge at the scene said Fenz had advised no-one should approach within 500m of the tipped tanker, and Police were evacuating houses in the vicinity of the incident.
The road was expected to be closed for several hours, but the gas was expected to disperse in the moderately windy conditions.
A St John spokeswoman confirmed an ambulance crew treated one person with minor injuries at the scene.
