Ten houses have been evacuated after a digger struck a gas main in the Hawke's Bay town of Pahiatua.
Emergency services were called to Kauri Place at 1.37pm after reports of a digger striking a domestic gas main, a Fire Service spokeswoman said.
The main had not been isolated as of 2.10pm and ten houses were evacuated as a precaution.
The relevant gas authority had been notified.
