Swannie Brown's family fulfilled his wishes by bringing him home to be buried after he died in a fiery truck crash in Australia.
Swannie moved to Australia in 1999 with his wife Christine and their two daughters, Lhatoya and Tiana.
He died on the Newell Highway near Dubbo on January 24 when his truck trailer clipped another truck as he was overtaking.
About 300 friends attended a service in Brisbane but the family brought his body back to Te Awamarahi Marae in the Waikato for burial.
Swannie's brother David "Haggie" Brown died in a Coromandel truck crash in 2003.
