KEY POINTS:
The Government is expanding its programme of grants and cheap loans to help people insulate their homes.
Energy Minister David Parker said yesterday 39,000 low income families had already retrofitted their homes with insulation and other energy efficiency measures and the expansion would put in $23 million over the next four years.
Mr Parker said the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority, which runs the Energywise programme, was looking for partners.
"It is expected that local authorities, power and lines companies, other businesses and community organisations may be interested," he said.
Government energy efficiency spokeswoman Jeanette Fitzsimons said "we know that homeowners who take advantage of the new funding to have insulation and clean, efficient heating installed in their homes will not only reduce their energy consumption".
"They will save on their power bills, can expect to improve their health with less asthma and winter illness, and fewer days off school and work simply by living in warmer, drier houses."
