A Wellington firebug who caused more than $100,000 of damage was today sentenced to eight months' home detention and ordered to pay reparations of $2000.
Cameron Gallagher, 18, admitted nine charges of arson. Police withdrew three further charges of arson.
Wellington District Court was told Gallagher stalked the area around his Miramar house from January 5 to May 4 this year, setting fire to cars, Miramar South School and a neighbour's house.
He tried repeatedly to raze a school and torched numerous cars because he was angry with life.
The court was crowded with Gallagher's supporters as he was senteced today.
