Paul Holmes and his replacement at TVNZ, Susan Wood, will have to front up to a parliamentary committee inquiry into the state broadcaster.
The company's senior managers will also have to be there.
Finance and expenditure committee chairman Shane Jones yesterday announced the terms of reference for the inquiry.
National's finance spokesman, Mr Key, is on the committee which will call TVNZ chairman Craig Boyce, board member and former Labour Cabinet minister Dame Ann Hercus, former chief executive Ian Fraser, news chief Bill Ralston, Holmes, Wood, and David Hays and Rob Cameron from the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union.
Mr Key says he will seek to subpoena anyone who refuses to appear before the inquiry.
