There were fewer holdups in Christmas-New Year holiday traffic this year compared with the previous year, police say.
As the last holidaymakers headed home on free-flowing roads yesterday afternoon, police reported no serious crashes or holdups this weekend.
Inspector David Montgomerie, of the police Northern Communications Centre, said this weekend's traffic flowed smoothly and the previous weekend there had only been a few problems at the Kopu Bridge at Thames and near Orewa - traditional holiday bottlenecks.
