Two fatal crashes within 15 minutes of each other this afternoon brought the holiday road toll to nine so far.
At about 1.15pm, a 4WD vehicle rolled on State Highway 30 approximately 10km west of Atiamuri, which lies 25km southeast of Tokoroa.
One man died at the scene, while the other two people in the vehicle were not injured.
Sergeant Christopher Money of the Police Northern Communications Centre said the vehicle was off the road however one lane of SH30 was closed to traffic.
At about 1.30pm, another person was killed when a camper van collided with a car near Paeroa at the bottom of the Coromandel Peninsula.
Mr Money said the crash occurred at the intersection of State Highways 25 and 26.
Northbound Coromandel traffic is being diverted at Paeroa onto SH 25A.
